I would love to do some more trail running and get off the road.

I have paced twice for the Wasatch 100. Some day I will run it.

Had a nice bike ride on a stationary at school between classes.  I did 6 mile at a good pace.  I then did some leg work, core, and push-ups to finish out my workout.

 

My knee is still not doing well.  I think is might be worse than before.  It hurts sometimes when I walk and squat down.  I need to talk to my Dr. to see what I should do now.

Sorry your knee is still bothering you. Mine is too, but only off and on, but then I haven't ran seriously yet, only 3 miles 3-5 times a week. We gotta talk, maybe on Sat. or Sun.

Took the kids to dance class.  While they were in class I did 4 miles on a stationary bike.  I would have done more but my butt couldn't take any more.  Then did some leg work (add/abduction and flex/extention).

Went to the pool with the kids.  I put my son on my back and then would run.  I got a great leg workout and lungs.  My knee felt great in the pool.

Knee update!!

 

I talked to Dr. Albano 2 weeks ago about my knee because it hasn't gotten better.  I am not able to bike or run due to pain for some time. My Dr. told me that we needed to try some thing more invasive to my knee.  The plan of action was to do an ultrasound needle injection.  Basically he would take a needle and jab it in to my patella tendon (numerous times) and make it bleed.  The bleeding will help the body repair the damaged tendon.  I got a call yesterday from his office telling me they had a cancelation for today. 

If anyone wants to know what it feels like to be a human pin cushion let me know.  The plan of attack from her is to take it easy today and then start stretching tomorrow.  As soon as my knee feels good enough I can start to run or bike.  Wish me luck!!!

Went out and biked 5.1 mile.  My knee felt great as long as I didn't stand up and peddle or do a hard downward stroke.  My knee still hurts when I bend it and that is the only time it hurts.

Biked 10 miles with my sis. it Syracuse on a trail by her place.  At mile 10 she got a flat.  We walked 1 1/2 miles back to her place.  It was great to get out and do something with my sis.

My knee is still slowly healing.  I still have some pain but the stretching I do keeps it in check.  I biked 7 miles on a stationary tonight.  I felt my knee a bit but not that bad. 

In 2 weeks I have another needling on my knee.  I think the last one helped, but I don't know.  My Dr. thinks I will need several to get my knee fully back to normal.  Wish me luck.

KM - what is a needling? I haven't checked your blog for a while. Are you still having knee issues from more than a year ago?

I am still having pain in my knee. The needling is and ultra sound guided needle that pokes a ton of holes in my patella tendon to make it bleed. There is not much blood supply to the tendon, so by poking holes in it hopefully the tendon will repair it self. If you look up microprofution or prolotherapy you can find more info.

Biked 7.5 miles at work tonight.  Last week it took me 27 mins to do 7 miles. Tonight I did 7 miles in 24 mins.  It felt great and my knee only hurt a bit.  Tomorrow is my needling.  I need to talk to my Dr. to see if I really need it.  Over the past 2 weeks my knee has been felling better and better.

It has been 6 days post needling and I am feeling tons better than last time.  I think my problem last time was that the pain killers didn't take away the pain.  My knee hurt so I stayed off of it and then it tightened up.  My Dr. gave me stronger pain killers and I am able to walk and move around well on it.  It is still tight but I also know what stretch I need to do to help in my recovery.  Last time I didn't find out till week 5 what I should have been doing.

 

I biked 4 miles indoors today, nice and easy.

Had a wonderful ride with my wife and kids (I pulled the kids) on the Legacy parkway.  We did 17 miles and Laurie kicked my butt.  I would keep up for a mile or so and then she would pull away from me.  It was a very nice day for a ride.  At the beginning I didn't think I would be able to make it the whole way because my legs started to burn after about 3 miles.  Then I got my second wind at about 8 miles and felt better.

It was another great day out side and I just had to get out and ride.  I was able to get out and ride by my self.  I did 10 miles at a good hard pace at an average of 16.3 MPH.  It felt great to just move.  My fastest mile was at 18 MPH and had several at 17.  I will have to see now my knee feels tomorrow.

 I am at about 78 miles for the month.

Biked with my sister up in clearfield.   There is is great trial by her place.  I pulled her kids in my stroller and we did 11 miles.  Sarah go 5 thorns in her tires this time.  Every time I bike with her she gets a flat.  I don't know how she does it but she does.

It was a cloudy day but that made it not too hot.  We biked on the Legacy park way and I pulled the kids.  I figured that I was pulling about 76 pounds of kids and another 20 for the bike stroller.  We biked 26 miles and it beat the hel* out of me.

Why does it have to rain on the day I wanted to do a long ride?  I did 15 miles at the gym while my kids were at dance class.  Then did another 10 at work.

It was a great day to get out and ride.  I dropped the kids off with my wife at school.  Her classes were having a party at the end of thier CRT testing and my wife wanted the kids to come.  So I rode from here school on Wasatch Blvd and about 4100 S, north over the bridge way over Parlys Cannyon.  Then took the back way to the zoo and up Emigration Cannyon for about 4 miles.   Turned about and went back to Lauries school.  It was a tough ride.  I haven't done that much hill climbing this year.

First 30 mile ride of the year.  My wife and I started about 5000 S and 5600 W.  Headed south on side roads and has some up hill climbs to about 10000 S.  Droped down to 4000 W.  It was all down hill to from there except my climb up 4700 S to 5600 W.

Did 8 mile with my long time buddy Clinton.  It was an easy ride because he hasn't biked in years.  I am hoping he will keep it up so I will have some one to bike with.

Salt lake Century

It was a great day for a long ride.  I did the metric century. I thought is was a 67 mile ride but ended up to be 71.  I biked it with my co-worker Emily.  We had a blast. The route was flat 93% of the time and that made for a fast race.  We started at the fair grounds on north temple and headed on back roads all the way north the antalop island blvd in syracuse.  If I had done  the 100 miler I would have went all the way to antalop island.  With about 10 miles to go I started to slow down.  I just felt spent.  Emily helped push me through the last miles.  This is the hardest and longest I have biked this year. 

So far my knee is doing great and I don't feel any pain for the ride.

Picked up my long time buddy clinton and drove to Brigham City where I meet 2 of his brothers also buddys of mine.  We then drove to Corrin.  We biked 15 miles and had a blast.  it was an easy ride.

Biked 45 miles with my wife.  We fallowed the Salt Lake Century route.  Some where in Bountiful I got of the route but then we met back up with it some how.

Biked to clinical in 38 min.  Is it a nice ride but I went a different way today because of construction on 27th west.  Man did the new route suck.  The 10 miles was a drag.

Biked home and decided to bike my normal route.  I turned on the 27th West and hit something.  Then 5 sec. later my tire was flat.  Called my wife and met her at my kids daycare.  I wanted to bike home but it wasn't happining today.

Had a wet ride with my buddy Clinton.  We started at his place and did a big 5 mile loop.  It rained on us off and on but I don't care.  It was fun.

I just did the Tour De Cure Century a few weeks ago. I am still not running but things are going well I can run after the kids without my knee hurting. I am planing on doing the Heber Valley Century the end of Sept but other than that not much but bike and recover.

Do you have any races planed?

oh, I just noticed your entry was from last month, I am slow. My next race is this sat., a half marathon in Provo with some of the bloggers and then I have Park City and St. George on the calendar. If I can get my sorry butt in shape I may try and my first 50 miler in the fall, but as of now it is not looking good. I can really feel my age!

Great race.  I ave. 18 MPH over the race.  My knee felt great.  It rained a bit but not much.  The hardest part was up to Golden Spike State Park.   On the way back down the hill my max speed was 40 MPH.   Picked up a group at about mile 55 and stayed with them till the end.  I took my turn pulling and hanging out in the back.  As a group we did any where from 20-22 MPH for the last 50 miles.

104 miles of fun in 5:48.  Total ride time including stops 6:45.  This is about 32 mins faster than my last one last year.

I did half a mile in the gym at work on an eliptical.  My knee felt good.  I still have some pain when I bend it but the running today felt good.  I haven't run in over 7 months.  The plan is to slowly do a little more.

Biked 26 miles today. Did 15.5 pulling the kids. My wife and a friend came with me. We biked part of the Salt Lake Century route. We met at the state fair grounds. I biked home from there for 10.5 more miles. I ave about 16.5 mph. Up the hills in Lake Park I did 20-23 mph. I pushed it to see what I could do up the hills.

Also did .5 of a mile on an eliptical at work again.
